Enjoy a behind-the-scenes peek inside this month's inspiring office in Frederick - Welocalize. Welocalize's office is located within the Glass Factory, a 17,000-square-foot structure that was built as a cannery in the early 1900s. It was previously a tailor company and also a window factory. Today, the renovated warehouse space is home to a variety of companies in Downtown Frederick.

Frederick, MD (September 2015) - A pair of local spirit
enthusiasts are well on their way to opening a new distillery in downtown
Frederick, MD. Tenth Ward Distilling Company will focus their products mainly
on whiskey but will also be producing some brandies and other barrel aged spirits.
They aim to be progressive and a little offbeat by experimenting with
unconventional ingredients, recipes and aging techniques.
The distillery is on schedule to open in the spring of 2016 at
508 East Church Street. In the late 19th century the area was known as
Frederick’s Tenth Ward and served as the inspiration for the company’s
name. As part of the industrial area of Frederick, there’s a strong
tradition of hard work and grit that the owners hope to carry through their
products and the distillery as they begin construction on the space.
The founders have started Frederick’s distillery network group, are members
of the Maryland Distillers Guild and are excited to be one of Frederick City’s
first distilleries in decades.
“Our area is already known for its craft breweries and
wineries. The growing craft distillery industry is a perfect fit for Frederick,”
said Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development for The City of
Frederick.
“A vibrant craft distilling industry brings skilled jobs, visitors
and an enhanced focus on locally-produced products." said Kevin Atticks,
Executive Director of the Maryland Distillers Guild.
Tenth Ward’s equipment is being built by Anthony
Zaca out of Washington state. The 2 custom made stills will forge unique small
batch spirits, including some limited edition products.
The distillery will feature a tasting room and tours and special
events will be available for adventurous tasters.

McClintock Distillery to Call Downtown Frederick Home
A new business is in the process of calling Downtown Frederick and Carroll Creek Park home. McClintock Distilling Company announced plans to renovate 35 South Carroll Street and open in the fall. They will focus on small batch, limited release products that use unconventional ingredients.

Frederick history is tied to this new business as well. The story of a local figure and innovator in the 1800's, McClintock Young, is a source of inspiration for the company. According to their website, "McClintock Young's incredible story will be integral to the products and experiences of the distillery."
Their website and Instagram account show current work being done on the interior of the building, including great time-lapse videos of the improvements to the space.
City code was amended in December of 2014, which permitted small craft distilleries in the Downtown Frederick area. McClintock Distilling Company is just one distillery expected to open as a result of the updated legislation. This Week on Carroll Creek - April 14, 2015
The warmer weather is allowing work on Carroll Creek to really take off. Several sections of the creek are being worked on at the same time with major improvements catching the passerby's eye.
On the West end of the Creek, just past Market Street and across from LaPaz, fountains are being installed with beautiful stone work. The large box shaped structure will be a replica of a Spring House with a fountain on either side.
On the East end of the Creek, pavers and paths continue to be laid, like the one below which is situated just past the Delaplaine and before East Street.
On the far East side, close to McCutcheon's Apple Products, the creek will widen in a section named Mill Pond. The picture below shows low green fencing/edging (epoxy coated rebar) that represents just how wide the Creek will be once complete. The green rebar will be covered by concrete and stone veneer to complete the new creek edge. At that edge, jets will shoot water back into the center of the creek. As well, water propulsion jets will be placed under the water to help with flow.

The Downtown Frederick Hotel and Conference Center project took a major step forward today in Annapolis with unanimous approval by the Frederick County State Delegation for a letter of support to Governor Hogan and a recommendation of $7.5 million in FY16 for public infrastructure associated with the development of the project (parking and associated improvements and land).
On hand to support the delegation request were Mayor Randy McClement, County Executive Jan Gardner, Chamber President Elizabeth Cromwell, Downtown Partnership Director Kara Norman, Frederick County Policy Director Roger Wilson, and Director of Economic Development Richard Griffin.
“We are simply delighted to receive unanimous support for this critical project and look forward to working with the developer – Plamondon Hospitality Partners, LLC – to get the project designed, approved, and constructed,” stated Griffin. He added that “the team will work hard over the next few weeks to secure a commitment from the Hogan administration for the requested investment.”
The Downtown Hotel Advisory Committee had requested $15 million from the state in two installments of $7.5 million per year in FY16-FY17. The full-service hotel and conference center is anticipated to be branded as a flagship Marriott hotel with 207 rooms and 24,000 square feet of meeting space. The facility will be privately owned and operated with no ongoing subsidy from local or state government.

This Week on Carroll Creek: December 12, 2014
Work continues on Carroll Creek Park on the East end of the park including grading, stone work, and shared use paths. Most noticeable on the East end of town, Carroll Creek was drained as a part of the scope of work.

A portion of Carroll Creek that flows through town was recently drained as a part of Phase II of the Carroll Creek project. Repairs and replacement work were necessary where the water normally flows. This work is all part of the overall project that is expanding the Carroll Creek Park improvements.

City of Frederick Awarded $350k in SGIF Grant Funding
Funding from the grant will be used in part for consultative
services with Jones Lang LaSalle and to assist with site
control and pre-development/entitlement costs for the project.
The Downtown Hotel & Conference Center will be developed
by Plamondon Hospitality Partners and located at the intersections of Patrick Street & Carroll Street, site of the old Frederick News-Post building. The project is expected to feature 207 guest rooms, 24,000 SF of meeting/ballroom space, on-site parking, a restaurant and rooftop
lounge, among other amenities.

The stone work in the picture above is part of the fountain and is just east of the Delaplaine and on the south side of the creek. The large structure behind is the City's All Saints Street parking deck.
Grading is nearly complete for the shared use path on the north side of the creek.
Equipment and materials continue to arrive in preparation for work on the far east side of Carroll Creek, near McCutcheon's Apple Products location.
