Last year, the City of Frederick launched two grant programs designed to provide local relief to small businesses struggling with COVID-19 restrictions to the economy. The following report summarizes the distribution and impact of these City programs.

The impressive 81,446 SF adaptive reuse project at 400 East Church is transforming the existing warehouse into over 83 loft-style apartments across three floors. New Life at the Hartz Business Center
Constructed in 1956, the building at 1341 Hughes Ford originally served as an eyeglasses manufacturing plant and then memorably as the Hartz Men’s Clothing manufacturing facility until its closure in 2006. In recent years, the aging building has again undergone a major transformation – now becoming a vibrant retail, service, and business center. Learn more about this exciting project here.

Maryland’s Small Business Development Center provides support to local entrepreneurs and small businesses. In addition to providing free individual consultation, the organization hosts comprehensive training programs — for those just thinking about starting a business to executive training — with most classes at low to no cost. November courses will again be held online in webinar format.
Update on Outdoor Dining in Frederick
FDK Runway Expansion Completed
On October 28, 2020, The City of Frederick celebrated the completion of the runway extension at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK). The project brings the total length of Runway 5-23 to 5819’. This new length improves the safety margins for all local aircraft and will accommodate increased fuel and passenger loads for larger jets flying in and out of Frederick.
