On June 24th, members of the City and County Economic Development teams welcomed biopharmaceutical executives from around the world to our community. These international travelers from Taiwan, Singapore, Cambodia and Hungary were in town for the recent Select USA Conference held at the National Harbor. Organized by the Department of Commerce, this first-in-the-nation program is designed to attract international businesses and ease their transition into the U.S. market by connecting them with incubators, incentives, real estate opportunities, and local business & government contacts.
When arriving to Frederick, the tour first stopped at our local incubator FITCI- a premier partner in Maryland's innovative Global Gateway Initiative.
At the next stop, our City & County economic development departments provided an overview of Frederick's booming biotech industry cluster. The local team shared stories of Frederick's outstanding quality of life, innovative programs with local colleges & institutions, and amazing workforce opportunities & initiatives.
Following the presentation, the visiting group toured newly constructed life science sites, as well as projects in the development pipeline in both the City and County.
From speculative laboratory space, to new flex options, to shovel-ready sites— Frederick has a diverse range of opportunities for biotech companies looking to put down roots on the East Coast.
In economic development, the City, County and State work collaboratively with prospects to provide connectivity to programs and resources as well as to support partnering and innovation within the biotech ecosystem.
